– Evans’s BMC included
for Tour
Cadel Evans’s gamble to sign with BMC paid off as the world
champion’s team was picked by organizers to take part in this year’s
Tour de France.
BMC are one of 22 teams that will start the race on July 3 in
Rotterdam, along with seven-times champion Lance Armstrong’s RadioShack
and Briton Bradley Wiggins’s Team Sky.
– Cheats now face huge fines
After a groundbreaking decision against Spaniard Manuel Beltran,
cyclists now know their bank accounts and not just their reputations
could be in tatters if they cheat.
Beltran was ordered to pay 100,000 Euros in damages plus legal fees
to Liquigas by the Italian Cycling Federation after he failed a test for
EPO during the 2008 Tour de France.
While some teams believe the ruling could set an important
precedent, Tour de France organizer Christian Prudhomme declined to
comment on the matter as did Tour of Spain organizers Unipublic.
