Oscar Freire of Rabobank
picked up his first victory of the season as he won the second race of
the Challenge Ciclista a Mallorca. The three-time world champion won a
sprint finish ahead of Andre Greipel (HTC-Columbia) and Manuel Cardoso
(Footon-Serve) at the end of a 172.4km stage in Cala Millor.
The event does not have a traditional general classification but
David Deroo (Skil-Shimano) currently leads the events “Combination
Competition” with 12 points. Katusha’s Robbie McEwen won the opening
race of the 2010 Challenge Ciclista a Mallorca after an impressive final
sprint for the line. McEwen was thrilled to record the win after only
recently making his return from a long-term knee injury that he
sustained in last year’s Tour of Belgium. Race three of event takes
place in Inca on Tuesday.
