Pedro Horrillo announced
last Friday his retirement from professional cycling. The 34-year-old
athlete was badly injured during last year’s Giro d’Italia. The accident
happened after he missed a bend during the eighth stage. He was
immediately taken to hospital and kept in an induced coma because of his
bad injuries. In particular, he broke several bones, including a broken
thigh bone, kneecap and ribs.
His team, Rabobank, offered to keep him under contract for this year
but his belief that he can’t make a full recover made him decide to quit.
