Like last year, the 2007
GORE-TEX’ Transalpine-Run attracts not only running friends from all
over the world but also prominent sportsmen. This time, former cycling
star Marcel Wuest, who caused a stir and sensation as a sprint ace
winning a stage of the 2000 Tour de France, wants to prove that he is
able to cross the mountains on foot.
In 2000, he demonstrated that he can make it on a bike when he was
the first one at the climbing classification in the kick off time trials
in the Futuroscope. Due to this smart move he took over the Polkadot
Jersey of the top climber.
More than 100 teams already registered
Besides Marcel Wuest, a lot of runners have already registered to be
part of the Alp-crossing. By now, more than 100 teams from 16 nations
will tackle the third GORE-TEX™ Transalpine-Run – including for the
first time ever two runners from South Africa.
Two duos will try to defend their last year’s title. 2006 winners
in the mixed and master category are ready to aim for victory again:
Magdalena Schiffer and Markus Friedel will start as “Team Naturpark
Lechtal” in the mixed classification, Thomas Miksch and Christian Stork
as “Team BLT LaufsportSaukel-Hagloefs” in the master category.
